Three South Korean researchers from the country's National Fisheries Research and Development Institute and the Korea Institute of Nuclear Safety will be aboard the ship Kaiyo for the survey project through Oct. 14. The researchers will collect samples of seawater and soil from six spots, including waters near the disputed Takeshima Island, which is called Dokdo in Korean.

The aircraft will collect air samples at an altitude of about 9,000 feet which will be analysed for radioactivity, according to an agency official.
